Armadillidium vulgare, called pill-bug or pill woodlouse, is a widespread European species of woodlouse. It is a terrestrial isopod bug.
It feeds chiefly on decaying plant matter, but also grazes lichens and algae from tree bark and walls.
It is keeps as family pets in the U.S., aboveall among children.
It’s often seen as unwanted but it’s essentially harmless.
