This is the period to harvest your broccoli and cauliflower before they statr to blossom.
They are rich in vitamin C: good to defence from cold winter!
Cook them by steam or boil them (but don’t throw away the water because it’s rich of nutrients), then put them in a backimg tray, greased by vegetable butter, dress them by vegetable cream and put into the oven for an half of hour to heat well. Then serve.
In alternative after cooking them, mix with soya milk and blend them so to obtain a cream very soft. heat well and serva with roasted pieces of whole bread.
With August flower-bugs (Cimicidae) arrive on veggies such as tomatoes and cauliflowers.
They bite veggies to suck their sap, and the plant reacts against them by thickering its tissue.
The result is ugly to look at, little hard to eat, but not damaging our healt.
To fight them use garlic or nettle macertate. It’s repellent, not a killer, but in this way plants have time to recover and continue to grow.
With temperature decreasing, they stop their ‘job’, till next year.
Here’s one of my cauliflowers.
I usually plant red, white, Romanesco and green ones.
I sow them between the end of May and the beginning of June. Till they are handle I transolant them outside and after the third couple of leaves is growen, I proceed to bedding them do to speed up their growing.
Generally I run bedding them at least twice a season.
